What is Tooth Whitening?
Tooth Whitening is a way to lighten your teeth at home using an effective gel and tray system. The whitening gel, which is designed to remove surface stains and reduce deeper discoloration over time, is placed into the tray and worn either overnight or for a few hours during the day.
The length of treatment varies depending on the patient’s teeth, that’s why at Blackhills Dental Clinic we review the journey every few weeks to assess the colour change. It is important to note that fillings, crowns, bridges and veneers do not change colour in the whitening process.

Yes, our at home teeth whitening kits are made using a professional-grade formula, making the treatment safe and effective.
How quickly will I see results?
Most patients see results after a couple of uses, but this may vary from person to person. Like all whitening products, the more you whiten the more continual improvement you will see. It is also important to maintain good oral hygiene to achieve optimum results.
Will my fillings, crowns, bridges and veneers whiten as well?
No, these products are only designed to whiten natural teeth.
Will my teeth become sensitive?
Some people report tooth sensitivity when whitening, although it is a temporary side-effect that will disappear when whitening stops. Should you experience sensitivity it is advised that you do not whiten every day, but give your teeth a rest for a day or two. Should the teeth be very sensitive we advise trays are worn with sensitive toothpaste overnight to settle them down.
Does whitening damage enamel?
Our professional whitening kits do not damage enamel as it contains products that are designed to be safe for tooth structure.
What should I avoid after treatment?
It is recommended to avoid stain-causing foods and drinks such as coffee, red wine, berries during the process to achieve effective results.
