Implant Crown and Bridge Restoration

Where one or more teeth are missing and the patient wants 'fixed' teeth, dental implants can be restored with crowns or a bridge.  This is a fixed restoration and cannot be removed by the patient.

Implant Crown and Bridge

Where one or more teeth are missing and the patient wants 'fixed' teeth, dental implants can be placed and then restored with a crown or a bridge.  This is a fixed restoration and cannot be removed by the patient, so feels and works very much like natural teeth.

Treatment (once the implant has healed):

Several appointments are required in order to make the restoration.

  • Initial impressions (moulds) of the teeth and implant are taken and sent to one of the dental laboratories we work closely with.
  • The customised crown or bridge is fabricated by the master technician and is then returned to be tried in.  When the clinician is satisfied with the fit and the patient is happy with appearance, the restoration is fitted.  Where changes need to be made, the restoration is sent back to the laboratory and then fitted at the next visit.  It can take several visits to get the best possible result.
  • A review appointment is required a couple of weeks later to check the restoration and take an x-ray. We will be very keen to check that the cleaning is as good as possible.

Maintenance:

In the long term it is essential to ensure that there is careful cleaning around the implant to maintain implant health, as we know gum disease around implants dental implant is much harder to treat than around natural teeth.
