Tooth coloured fillings
Tooth coloured fillings or "composite" can be used to help improve the appearance without severely damaging the teeth. If you have discoloured or misaligned teeth, composite can be placed over surfaces of the teeth to change the shape and close unwanted spaces between the teeth.
Treatment:
It's a very simple and painless procedure:
- Gel (etch) is placed onto the tooth and left for a few minutes then washed off
- Bonding agent is placed, dried and set with a light
- Composite (filling material) is placed onto the tooth, shaped to the required appearance then set with a light
- Polishing is then carried out to get high shine on the filling
A review appointment is required to make sure there has been no change in the filling, such as chipping.
Maintenance:
White filling material can discolour over time, with certain food and drinks. This can be removed with simple polishing or may eventually require the filling to be replaced.
